OUR SECRETS KEEP US SICK

The old saying in the subject line is how I begin my memoir, Secrets of a Gay Marine Porn Star. How true!

According to this article in the Military Times, an HIV+ Catholic chaplain was sentenced to prison time for sex offenses. It's a double whammy for this guy - after a lifetime of keeping who he is a secret from both his church and his government, no wonder he engaged in such predatory behavior. Now he's going to jail.

It's a modern American tragedy all around - he violated his rank and position of trust as a clergyman and an officer; obviously someone loved him (he seems to have a partner) who is undoubtedly crushed by this; gay men and HIV positive people are further stigmatized, and someone who was in a position to be a gay role model (albeit a closeted one) turned out to be the opposite.
