My Lesbian Girlfriend, The Rock Star
"Watching Melissa Reaves perform is the second greatest out-of-body experience I've ever had," said the manager of The Bitter End, New York's longest-running rock club.
"How long have you been the manager?" I asked.
"Thirty-four years," he answered. Wow. I let my imagination fill in the blank about his greatest out-of-body experience but by the end of the night, I understood what he meant. Watching Melissa on stage was a transcendental event.
What made it even more special for me was the fact that she used to be my girlfriend,
sort of. Way back in junior high school. I feel like Melissa and I are twins separated at birth because our lives have been oddly similar, even though we lost touch for about twenty-five years. We attended Tabernacle Kindergarten, transferring to Bob Jones Elementary School in the first grade. We were both expelled from Bob Jones, although Melissa beat me to the punch. She was "shipped" from the Academy and I from the University.
