James Dobson and other Swine

Ted Haggard, my book, “I Had to Say Something”, and the James Dobson connection.
Let me begin by looking at the James Dobson connection. When people say, “I wish we could nail Dobson”, they are really missing how my story had an impact on him. You see, Haggard was Dobson’s baby. Dobson is the one who pushed for Haggard to be President of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE). So when Haggard was exposed it scared Dobson so bad that is why he was not on Ted’s restoration team. This really did damage Dobson and his credibility as far as a judge of character. Ask the people down in Colorado Springs, this really did quiet Dobson this last year. And who cares who Dobson picks as President of United States. We can now question his judge of character.
When I saw the recent film, “The Bible Tells Me So”, I wanted to stand up and shout in the theater, “This is why I did what I did people”!
Recently there have been articles regarding the crack in the evangelical political movement. Not once have I seen any reference to me and Ted Haggard. Now that I look back over this last year, my story did have an impact on the political scene. Remember, Harpers Magazine stated that no Pastor in America had more sway over the political direction of the Evangelical movement.
When I exposed Ted Haggard I exposed myself and my life will never be the same. But most people just don’t get it. Most people cannot look past the headlines: “Mike Jones, prostitute; drug dealer.
That is why I wrote the book. But unless people take the time to read it and understand the big picture, they will be as shallow as the Religious Right. One thing I have learned this last year is that no one owns the word hypocrisy. It is just as much in the gay “community” as in the church.
When I wrote the book, I wanted to try to educate people why I refer to myself as an “Escort versus a Prostitute”. When men came to see me, in so many situations is was much more than just about sex, it was about emotions. If you want to ignore this contrast consider this, I touched and held men in my arms whose bodies were ravaged by cancer and AIDS. I held men who were dying of Alzheimer’s and Leukemia. Does that sound like a prostitute? And as far as being a drug dealer, please, I only hooked him up with someone at his request. I have never dealt drugs, period!
But mostly my book deals with the struggle I endured that ultimately lead to my decision. It was by no means easy or calculated. I said from the beginning that this was just the tip of an iceberg, a big tip, but just the tip. Look at what has happen since. Hypocrites are being exposed and rightfully so. Until people are honest with themselves, this scenario will happened many more times and destroy many more lives.
In public I have been spit on, called a whore, and told to go to hell. And that is just by the gay “community”. Imagine what the religious and straight population has said about me. So all those who have criticized me, I say, “Show me your BALLS and do something that will make a difference in the world”.
